From the Jurassic,Toarcian stage.
Collected from Illminster,Somerset,England.
Super complete nautilus from the upper lias,Junction beds.
There are plenty of ammonites found at this location, but Nautilus are solitary creatures, and as such are not found in the same profusion.
Its also very nice to find one complete, as they are usually blown, where the first whorl just begins to go under the second as this is the weakest point!
This specimen displays the classic flatish venter associated with this species
The nautilus measures 44mm and including the base cut matrix measures 62mm x 61mm.
